Garden Size Tip

Generally speaking, 200 square feet of garden space per person will allow for a harvest that feeds everyone year-round. 20 by 40 feet is usually more than large enough for a family of four, so this will give you an idea of how to calculate the size that you will need.

Kids Gardening Guide

My grandparents got me to start gardening at the age of 4 years old, alright I kind of kept getting in the way so they started a garden just for me. I only wanted to help and be in for some fun playing in the dirt, how was I to know at that age what they were really doing?

  • Start a separate garden just for them
  • Take them to plant shopping
  • Allow them to pick out their own plants
  • Plants instead of seeds are a much better choice for children, they are too impatient waiting for the seeds to show their heads out of the ground.
  • Purchase kid-size garden tools for them
  • Save money by purchasing a gardening tool kit instead of buying them separately
  • Allow them to dig the holes for their plants
  • Help them take the plants from the containers
  • Place the plant into the hole and allow them to fill the hole with dirt and water them
  • Once everything is planted their job will be to keep their garden watered
  • Explain to the child what days are watering days so they understand

Gizmos Deals highly recommends getting your children started gardening young, since they love to play in the dirt they will naturally take to this new hobby. I am still at the age of 63 still growing all types of plants, indoor houseplants and my outdoor vegetable and herbs are a summer hobby I look forward to.
